Silent farewells
Why do we settle for less? Because we think we deserve it.
βYou know she likes you no matter what, that's why you do nothingβ, his friends voice boomed through the passageway that led to the sitting room.
I stood in the shadows of the doorway, a silent observer. I wasn't eavesdropping, not really.
I came to give him his phone, it had been ringing for a while now. Their voices, muffled and incoherent, had drifted through my room, sparking my curiosity and bringing him his phone was the excuse I was going with.
His friend's words stopped me cold. My mind flooded with torrent of memories.... The countless times I'd wanted him to whisper sweet nothings into my ear as I didn't care for a bold gesture. The countless times I'd yearned for his reassurance that I was the only one. The countless times that I shed the shell of my being, loosened my wrapper and let it to the ground for him to at least see me. He had claimed me, number of times but I don't think he ever saw me.
Time blurred, minutes stretching to eternity as my mind raced with thoughts. A sharp notification sound jolted me back to reality.
Then I remembered... I was here for a reason. My gaze fell to the bright screen of the phone, a message...
"Call back. I love youβ€οΈ," it read.
And I guess that was all it took. The end.
